It's easy, you put your right foot in, you take your right foot out, you put it back in and than you shake it all about...
Wait... that sounds like something else entirely.

Still on the Final Fantasy case. If you beat all the games can you finally fantasy?

Jackho responds:

I don't even know how to fantasy any more

A friend of mine borrowed me Final Fantasy X-2 some years ago, I haven't played it through though. I recently started playing Final Fantasy X and couldn't really get into it. Which one would you recommend for trying to get into this series?

(Updated ) Jackho responds:

X has an amazing soundtrack and probably the best combat, but the plot and characters are pretty balls and let the overall game down. X-2 is one of the worst.

The most common starting point is probably VII, it's really simple and easy to get used to. The ones I'd recommend are IV, VI, VII, IX and Tactics in any order.

I really want Cloud's sword.

Never played the game, but who doesn't want a friggin' huge kitchen knife looking sword?

Jackho responds:

The revolver gunblade looks better imo, real life buster swords look like cheap slabs of metal. Final Fantasy VII is a really great game btw, as well as the prequel Crisis Core.

WHY DOESN'T BATMAN BEAT HIM UP AND TAKE HIS FEAR GAS AND CALL HIMSELF SCARYBAT OR SOMETHING SO HE CAN BE EXTRA SCARY TO CRIMINALS

FEATURING ADAM WEST AS SCARYBAT

BANE WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE JOKER I CAN'T EVEN EXPLAIN IT, NOLAN'S JOKER IS AWFUL, HAMILL > NICHOLSON > LEDGER ANY DAY

HEATH DID SOME AMAZING ACTING IN TDK BUT HIS VERSION OF THE JOKER'S SO BAD :( :( :(

PLUS CHRISTIAN BALE'S STUPID GRAVELY VOICE WASN'T NEARLY AS BAD IN TDKR :(((((((((((((((((

ALSO SCARECROW IS A BEAST I LOVE HIM

I HAVEN'T SEEN EITHER SO I WOULDN'T KNOW.

SCARECROW IS A BEAST THOUGH.

IrishGunIrishGun

I just never got it when it was new so when I played it I was disappointed because it was heralded as the best thing that happened to gaming. IX and VI were better.

2012-08-08 00:41:38

Hopefully I'm not the only one who thinks FFVII is terribly overrated and far from being the best in the series.

Jackho responds:

I prefer VI, IX and Tactics but I do love FFVII. You're far from the only one though.

I was never into final fantasy. i heard it was good but also heard it sucks.

It's a hit or miss franchise. When it's good it's phenomenal, and when it's bad it's absolute shit.

DeanDean

The only FF games I've played were whatever was included on the FF Anthology on PS1. IV and V I think, along with FFX and Dirge of Cerberus. Never finished a single one of them.

The only thing that stops me getting into that FF series is that I'd want to play all the main titles, in order (even though you don't have to) and some of them are pretty hard to get at a reasonable price now. I'd like to get the PSP ports of the earlier titles at some point.

Jackho responds:

You'll enjoy Crisis Core much more if you haven't played the original. Prepare for manly tears at several points. Also I'd recommend playing FFVII after you finish CC. You can get it for around £20 on ebay, with the PC version being a little pricier. Or you can get it on PSN cheap. It may seem a bit much but kep in mind this game is always brought up in best game of all time discussions, perhaps even more so than OoT.

VI, VII, IX and Tactics are the important ones, and I suppose I'll include VIII too, though I hated that one.

III, IV and the original (as in the remake of the original) are decent. X has a phenomenal combat system and soundtrack but the characters and plot left a lot to be desired, at least to me.

DeanDean

2012-04-22 11:10:50

I added a FF game to my collection. Crisis Core. You recommended that I get it on my PSP and I did. I've played a little and so far so good. I'll start playing more often once my exams are out the way but I have a ton of other new games to get through too.

It will be better playing it from now on seeing as a thumb cap for my PSP stick finally arrived.

Jackho responds:

Awww hell yeah. Starts a little slow, but it gets better, I promise. Have you played the original FFVII?

NeverHundredNeverHundred

Someday... SOMEDAY!!! Why not today. Why not CONQUER THE FUTURE NOW!

Jackho responds:

I dunno ;(

DeanDean

2012-04-02 10:15:59

Have you still been sticking to this list or have you moved on to other games now? I'm going back to the classics for a while. Fucking Sonic. He's so infuriating!

Jackho responds:

This has sort of come to a temporary halt for now, the ones I own but haven't finished aren't that great (except Tactics but it's bitch hard) and I lack the dosh to buy more right now. Fret not however, I shall conquer this series some day.

NeverHundredNeverHundred

2012-03-09 10:18:25

It looks like there are more italic letters on the screen. I can't help but imagine that you keep getting frustrated and smashing the games or something.

(Updated ) Jackho responds:

It has more to do with trying to play older games only to find them destroyed, possibly in a fit of youthful rage. I sure did suck at RPGs back then.

I liked Oblivion. I like real time RPGs. When i played that I would just randomly roam the land exploring, it was great. Sandbox live action RPGs are probably my favorite kind of video game actually. Although, I did enjoy the Portal games. I have to admit, I'm not really much of a gamer. But I like a few of them every now and again.

Jackho responds:

Skyrim is just Oblivion on steroids, so yeah. Ever tried Crisis Core on the PSP?

NeverHundredNeverHundred

2011-12-20 15:05:28

You know... I couldn't win even one of those Final Fantasy games. I nearly beat Secret of Mana though, got all the way to the final boss, I lost once and that was it. Figured I'd gone far enough. I think the only RPG I've ever really won was Oblivion. Or at least I got through the main quest.

Hey, have you played the old Fallout games? I tried them once, but like I probably mentioned before... not really into turn based RPGs, but if you like Final Fantasy than you probably like, or if you've played them you may have liked the old first and second fallout games.

Jackho responds:

RPGs just aren't your thing I guess, which is a shame since I find them to be the best experiences gaming can offer. Have you played Skyrim yet though? If you even slightly liked Oblivion you'll love Skyrim.

Fallout 1 is my favorite RPG of all time man. And that's not even nostalgia, I played it for the first time around 2009 or so. Absolutely amazing game. I can see why you'd be turned off if you're not that into RPGs though, it's pretty brutal to newcomers but that just makes victory all the more satisfying.

I started playing the SNES version of Final Fantasy 5 a few days ago and remembered about your marathon :D

You're playing FF XIII? I heard people call it "Final Hallway XIII", because you basically can't freeroam and shit. I could be wrong though, because I never played

And I read about FF7 and FF8 and I got kind of intrigued. But sadly I don't have the opportunity to play it :C

(Updated ) Jackho responds:

Holy shit, I was remembered!

FFXIII is possibly the most linear RPG of all time. It really does consist of you running down a straight, narrow hallway for 50 hours or so. Hell, even the combat is linear since you only control one character at a time (the character is not selectable by the player) and the skill tree is literally a straight line with one or two abilities branching off here and there plus enemies are already in the world instead of being randomly encountered. In other words you'll always end up fighting the exact same enemies with the exact same characters using the exact same abilities on every playthrough. It's hard to even call this an RPG at all. It does feel more like an FF game once you get to disc 3, where it lets you choose your team and gives you a decently large area to explore, but it's really not worth playing through such a boring game to get to the slightly good parts. Also probably the worst line up of characters in an FF game since VIII, and that's saying something. And then they went and made a fucking sequel, with the possibility of a third game. Evidently, everyone at Square Enix is a retard.

Final Fantasy VII and VIII are on PC by the way, but you're better off staying well away from VIII in my opinion.

Edit: From the looks of things XIII-2 does seem like a massive improvement in almost every way, but the idea of even making a sequel to such a horrible game when they should be working on Versus XIII or an entirely new game is what really rustles my jimmies.

2011-09-17 20:38:14

Yeah it is a very weird list to be honest.

FFXII is hated for such silly reasons but if you ask me it has an epic story, good gameplay, nice enough graphics the only thing really is some of the characters have no likability factor

FFVI? Woah! just wow! Love this game! In the 1st week I had over 35hrs of Gameplay on my SNES emulator, Not to mention Kefka Palazzo being one of the greatest villian masterminds ever seen in the series

FFIII- I only played the DS version but it's a great game, has the best overall soundtracks in my opinion, Now FF3 doesn't have my fave tracks but it has a great combo together and not to mention the game is challenging enough too :)
However the battle system is broken, by Level 60 you can deal 9999 damage (max hit points) already, it's kinda annoying how they spaced it out.

FFIV- For the 1st part of the game it was my fave FF I ever played, then everyone started "dying" or being kidnapped, or Kain betrayed them again etc the story got repetitive but it is an amazing game.

FFVII CC- Only game/movie that ever brought some sort of tear to my eye, Excellent game, Zack is the most loveable guy ever, Pity he died, I really felt bad after that, He's not real but I actually had feelings for him. That is called a good story line

Jackho responds:

I liked XII's world but the gambit system was pants and Vaan and Penelo had literally nothing to do with the plot. I hated the costume design too. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't great either.

I agree entirely with VI though, and I haven't played III entirely yet but I really love the soundtrack, especially the battle theme. I still don't think it's as good as IX's soundtrack though. I enjoyed IV too.

I can relate to your feelings on Crisis Core, it takes something special to make you feel bad for a character's death when you know it's going to happen from the beginning.

BanglaBoy96BanglaBoy96

2011-09-15 23:35:59

My top 5 fave FF Games

1: XII
2: VI
3: III
4: IV - IV After years
5: VII Crisis Core

That list is pretty whack.
